Devin Shaffer
Based in New York after living in Chicago, Devin Shaffer develops a writing style that sits between intimate folk, ambient, and minimalist songwriting. His early tracks gave ample space to discreet textures, field recordings, and collage-like constructions, before evolving toward a more stripped form centered on voice and acoustic guitar. This trajectory is notably evident on In My Dreams I’m There, released in 2021, followed by Patience, his first studio album, written between 2021 and 2023 and carried by a group of guest musicians. On this record, Devin Shaffer tightens his language around hushed songs where a traditional folk sensibility is heard as much as a contemporary attention to space, silence, and arrangements. Among the collaborations associated with Patience are Lucy Liyou on piano, Sarah Galdes on drums, Marilu Donovan on harp, and Mari Rubio on pedal steel, in an ensemble that stays sober and acoustic. Devin Shaffer thus places his music in a calm and introspective chamber-folk register, traversed by elements of dream folk and ambient, while maintaining a direct relationship to the song and to the indie scene between Chicago and New York.
