Big Noyd

Originally from the Queensbridge Houses in Queens, New York, Big Noyd belongs to the lineage of 1990s New York rap, situated between hardcore rap, dark boom bap and street narratives firmly rooted in their environment. Also credited as Rapper Noyd, he came to prominence in the wake of Mobb Deep, with whom he maintained a lasting connection within the Queensbridge circle, notably around Havoc and Prodigy. His appearances on several tracks by the duo in the mid-1990s, including 'Give Up the Goods (Just Step)', helped establish his name, before he signed with Tommy Boy Records and released his debut album, Episodes of a Hustla (1996). That record extended the cold, tense aesthetic associated with Queensbridge, featuring spare productions, dry rhythms and a direct flow. Afterwards, Big Noyd built a discography of albums, mixtapes and numerous features, while remaining closely tied to the East Coast scene. In Big Noyd's work, concise writing, a raw tone and nocturnal atmospheres draw a clear continuity with the New York street rap of his era.
