Pictoria Vark

The name Pictoria Vark, chosen by Victoria Park, took shape in Columbia, Missouri’s DIY scene before expanding into Chicago. The project sits within indie rock with shades of slowcore, emo and lo-fi, built around a prominent bass, economical guitars and restrained vocals. After several early releases in the late 2010s, Pictoria Vark released the album The Parts I Dread in 2022, a record where introspective writing and spare arrangements alternate with denser surges. Alongside this personal work, Victoria Park also plays bass in other contexts within the independent scene, which places Pictoria Vark into the network of DIY venues and small-scale tours across the American Midwest. Through gigs and new releases, Pictoria Vark has been honing a concise, melodic and slightly abrasive sound that sits between indie pop, emotional rock and diary-like songwriting.
