Caloé

From a French family where classical music and singing play an important role, Caloé initially trained on the violin before shifting her focus to the voice, approached as an instrument in its own right. It is through jazz that Caloé develops her musical language, making improvisation a structuring element of her approach, both in interpretation and in composition. Her personal repertoire brings together chanson and jazz in a flexible format, open to other rhythmic and melodic currents, with passages toward samba, bossa nova, soul or rap depending on the performance context and the musicians who accompany her. Caloé writes her own lyrics and compositions and frames her work in a constant dialogue with instrumentalists from the French and international jazz scene. On stage, she favors living forms in which the arrangement remains tied to listening, the group’s dynamics and the space allowed for improvisation, between characterful song and a more open jazz expression.
