Culoe De Song

Emerging from the South African house scene, Culoe De Song has been developing an electronic signature since the late 2000s focused on afro house and deep house. His work is marked by long structures, repetitive melodic development and percussive layers inspired by local traditional music. Born Culolethu Zulu in Eshowe, KwaZulu‑Natal, he was noticed early on at Black Coffee’s Soulistic label before releasing maxi singles on the German label Innervisions, which placed him on European dancefloors. Culoe De Song went on to release consistently and refine a style where synthetic pads, sampled voices and dense rhythms build an aesthetic that is both introspective and club‑oriented. His album A Giant Leap (2009), followed by the long formats Elevation (2011) and Exodus (2013), map this trajectory and broadened his audience beyond South Africa. A DJ and producer, Culoe De Song now divides his time between international tours, studio work and occasional collaborations with other figures in house and contemporary African electronic music.
