Aikakone
Formed in Finland in 1995, Aikakone emerged amid the eurodance and pop wave that was then sweeping the Finnish scene, with tracks built on danceable rhythms, immediate melodies and a pronounced electronic aesthetic. The quartet brought together Saija Aartela, Heidi Puurula, Alex Ojasti and Marko Kolehmainen, and experienced an initial period of activity until 1998 before returning in the early 2000s—briefly under the name Aika—and resuming as Aikakone from 2003 on an intermittent basis. Aikakone’s studio discography includes Tähtikaaren taa (1995), Toiseen maailmaan (1996), Maa (1998), Hear Me Now (2001), Vuosisadan rakkaustarina (2010) and 2.0 (2015). Initially identified with Finnish-language songs, Aikakone later adopted a more international orientation on Hear Me Now, while remaining rooted in dance-pop and eurodance. Within the Finnish pop landscape, Aikakone remains associated with the aesthetic of the 1990s, while continuing to perform and record sporadically.
