Akeem Ali
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Akeem Ali develops rap marked by the Southern United States, with a measured writing style, a theatrical sense of phrasing, and an aesthetics drawing as much from contemporary hip-hop as from the imagined funk and soul of the 1970s. Akeem Ali began releasing his music in the late 2010s and released the EP Rollin in 2020, before gaining broader visibility in the same year with ‘Keemy Casanova’, a viral track accompanied by a character he builds as an alter ego inspired by the visual and narrative codes of blaxploitation and the pimp culture of the seventies. This approach, both musical and performative, becomes a central element of his artistic identity. In quick succession, Akeem Ali released the EP Mack in the Day in 2020, extending this direction with smooth productions, rounded basses, retro references and a rap that plays on groove as much as on staging. His journey sits between internet culture, independence and southern heritage, with constant attention to the character, rhythm and atmosphere.
