DJ BoBo
Born in 1968 in Kölliken, Switzerland, DJ BoBo—real name Peter René Baumann—emerged on the European eurodance scene in the early 1990s after several years working as a club DJ. He developed a style that blends fast dance rhythms, spoken rap sections and choruses sung by female voices, in an aesthetic close to the era’s dance-pop and hi-NRG. His first studio album, Dance With Me (1993), firmly established the project with tracks such as “Somebody Dance with Me” and “Keep on Dancing,” followed by a string of eurodance singles played across Europe. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, DJ BoBo broadened his sound toward more melodic pop-dance, incorporating ballad elements and Latin and R&B influences while remaining rooted in club music. His tours gradually took the form of themed shows—around concepts like pirates, vampires or the circus—where choreography, staging and projections became central. DJ BoBo continues to release new albums regularly, to collaborate with various guest performers, and to tour mainly in Switzerland, Germany and neighboring countries, performing at festivals, arenas and on television events.
