Elliot Galvin

Based in London and born in 1991, Elliot Galvin has since the early 2010s developed a career situated between contemporary jazz, small-ensemble writing, and more open practices related to improvisation. Trained as a pianist, also active on various keyboards and auxiliary instruments, Elliot Galvin builds a language in which oblique pulsation, a taste for dissonance, repetitive motifs, and melodic detours intersect, drawing on both jazz and a sensibility tied to contemporary music. His name first established itself with the Elliot Galvin Trio, formed with Tom McCredie on bass and Corrie Dick on drums, heard on Dreamland in 2013 and then Punch in 2016, before The Influencing Machine in 2018 and Modern Times in 2019. In parallel, Elliot Galvin participates in several notable London scene formations, notably Dinosaur alongside Laura Jurd, with the albums Together, As One in 2016, Wonder Trail in 2018 and To the Earth in 2020, as well as Emma-Jean Thackray's WALRUS project. His work is characterized by dense yet flexible writing, attentive to textures, dynamic shifts, and the balance between composition and improvisation, in contexts that lead him as much to jazz stages as to spaces related to contemporary art.
