Jorge Roeder
Born in Lima in 1980, Jorge Roeder initially followed a path that combined classical training, the local rock scene and jazz practice, before settling in the United States after studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston. A double-bassist and electric bassist, Roeder works in contemporary jazz where composition, improvisation and the sense of collective dialogue are central; his playing is precise, flexible and often marked by Latin American resonances. After periods with the philharmonic and lyrical orchestras of Lima, he became part of the Boston scene and later Brooklyn’s, building long-standing collaborations with Julian Lage and Shai Maestro while also performing with Gary Burton, Nels Cline, John Zorn, Ryan Keberle and Sofia Rei. His discography as a sideman spans varied contexts, from Julian Lage’s Sounding Point (2009) to Shai Maestro’s Human (2021). Under his own name, Jorge Roeder released El Suelo Mío in 2020, a solo double-bass album that foregrounds a melodic and rhythmic approach deeply attentive to timbre.
