The Peawees
Formed in La Spezia in 1995 around Hervé Peroncini, The Peawees operate within a punk rock vein that from the outset mixes punk revival, pop punk, alternative rock and a more classic rock’n’roll sensibility. After Where People Smile (1995), The Peawees evolved their sound with This Is Rock ’n’ Roll (1998), where ’77 punk energy met more pop-oriented melodies and references to 1950s and 60s rock, then with Dead End City (2001). Through several lineup changes the band broadened its style beyond straight punk by incorporating garage rock, power pop and soul elements into direct, nervous songwriting. Walking the Walk was released in 2007, Leave It Behind in 2011, Moving Target in 2018 and One Ride in 2024. Now a quartet with Hervé Peroncini, Fabio Clemente, Dario Persi and Tommy Gonzales, The Peawees have played punk and garage stages in Italy and across Europe, appearing at festivals such as Independent Days, Goa-Boa, MI AMI and Rotterdam Rumble. They retain an identity based on short, melodic, taut songs at the crossroads of punk rock and rock’n’roll.
