Sarah Lancman
Trained in classical piano in Paris from an early age, Sarah Lancman subsequently developed a career as a singer, pianist and composer at the crossroads of jazz and chanson. Born in 1989 in the French capital, she studied at the Conservatoire du Centre and then at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, where she specialized in composition, jazz piano and voice. In 2012 Sarah Lancman won the first prize of the Shure Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival, under the presidency of Quincy Jones, a decisive milestone in her international visibility. Her tours have taken her to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Turkey and several European countries, before an invitation to New York in 2016 by the Jazz Foundation of America. Her aesthetic blends melodic writing, a taste for standards, the French language and anglophone repertoire, in a vocal-jazz register where the piano occupies a central place. Between 2016 and 2021 Sarah Lancman co-founded and developed the Jazz Eleven label with pianist Giovanni Mirabassi, then created her own entity Lancman Productions in 2023. The same year saw the release of her sixth album, “Le pouvoir des mots” (2023), which affirms the link between the heritage of francophone chanson and the jazz tradition.
