Babylone

Born on February 8, 1989 in Sidi Ghiles, in the Tipaza province of Algeria, Mohammed Amine Djemmal, aka Babylone, grows up in Gouraya in a context marked by social difficulties and the violence of the 1990s. It is in this environment that he turns very early to music, first as a space of personal expression, before singing at parties and weddings while taking on a number of small jobs. Babylone emerges in the early 2010s with a repertoire that blends Maghrebi pop, sentimental songs and reggae accents, carried by simple and direct writing as well as singing in dialect Arabic. His name circulates widely from 2012 with the track 'Zina', which establishes him with an audience well beyond Algeria. The rest of his career follows in this popular vein, between accessible melodies, flexible rhythms and contemporary North African influences. Babylone develops a musical identity at the crossroads of Arabic variety and light pop nourished by urban elements, with tracks centered on relationships, everyday life, and attachment to the country. This trajectory led him to perform on various stages in North Africa, in Europe, and among diasporas, establishing Babylone in the Algerian musical landscape of the 2010s.
