Goodbye Karelle

Led by Quebec artist Karelle Tremblay, Goodbye Karelle develops a musical project situated between spoken word and alternative pop, where the spoken and sung voice occupies a central place. Emerging from the Canadian francophone scene, Goodbye Karelle reveals an intimate world organized around texts in French and English, crafted like fragments of a personal diary. The first album, Hugh Greene & the Lucies Made Me, released in 2023, establishes this aesthetic through a series of minimalist pieces with restrained tempos that leave ample space for words and silence. The songs address stories of fraught romantic relationships, persistent solitude and intrusive memories, while exploring questions of identity, gender and desire. Goodbye Karelle borrows as much from cinema as from song, playing with self‑staging, slowness and a form of inward narration. On stage as in the studio, the project favors open structures over classic verse‑chorus formats, seeking a stripped‑down pop in which language, phrasing and vocal presence become the heart of the artistic proposition.
