Sara Correia

Born in Lisbon, Sara Correia belongs to the Lisbon fado tradition, which she practiced from adolescence in fado houses after winning the Grande Noite do Fado at a young age. Her repertoire remains rooted in traditional fado, with a direct interpretation, a strong attention to the lyrics and acoustic arrangements that also allow more contemporary strands of Portuguese songwriting to enter. Sara Correia released a self-titled debut album in 2018, then Do Coração in 2020 and Liberdade in 2023 — three records that show continuity between the genre’s heritage and an openness to other songwriting formats. Over the course of her career, she performs on Portuguese and international stages devoted to vocal music and popular traditions, while remaining tied to Lisbon’s cultural framework. She has also developed collaborations beyond strict fado, such as the track 'Respirar' with the duo Calema. In Sara Correia’s singing, the voice rests on clear diction, contained intensity and a very readable relationship to saudade, without moving away from the musical language inherent to fado.
