Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Born between Philadelphia and Brooklyn in the mid-2000s, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sits within an indie rock with indie pop inflections, built around nervy guitars, angular keyboards and Alec Ounsworth’s instantly identifiable timbre. Initially formed as a quintet in 2004, the band drew attention with the self-produced Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album in 2005, then widely picked up by the early online music media, in a context often associated with the so-called blog-rock era. The follow-up sharpens and shifts this sound without breaking with its melodic and abrasive base, from Some Loud Thunder in 2007 to Hysterical in 2011, then Only Run in 2014, The Tourist in 2017 and New Fragility in 2021. Over the years, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah shifts from a stable group dynamic to a project centered on Ounsworth, who continues to keep this repertoire alive surrounded by touring musicians. The band's trajectory remains marked by an independent operating model, between self-production, direct distribution and regular tours in North America and Europe, with festival appearances such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Rock en Seine or Roskilde. In this journey, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has also crossed paths with producers such as Dave Fridmann and John Congleton, while maintaining a writing where rhythmic tension, oblique refrains and a sense of offbeat mingle.
