Rabbitology
Behind Rabbitology is Nat Timmerman, a singer-songwriter based in Michigan whose upbringing in Ohio informs her work. Her writing is rooted in a personal imagination nourished by metaphors, short narratives and an alternative folk sensibility. The Rabbitology project emerged through a series of singles released between 2023 and 2024, before a self-produced debut EP constructed from a student bedroom, where Timmerman developed an aesthetic she associates with a “midwestern gothic” register: banjo and folk guitars intersect with more electronic textures, restrained percussion and sometimes hip-hop–inspired rhythms, all carried by a clear, often ethereal soprano voice. Rabbitology’s songs address stagnation, anxiety, panic disorders and the sensation of being absent from one’s own life, but also the female experience, dissociation and tensions between queer identity and religious upbringing. Often the songs take the form of a dark tale or a memory shifted into the fantastic, featuring ghostly figures, doubles and physical or symbolic links between bodies. Between narrative folk, alternative pop and hushed atmospheres, Rabbitology thus builds an intimate musical language focused on staging psychic states and inner landscapes.
