Anna Lapwood

Born in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, Anna Lapwood develops a broad musical practice early on before turning to the organ in adolescence, then studying in Oxford where she is one of the first female organ scholars at Magdalen College. A British organist, choirmaster and presenter, Anna Lapwood moves within the field of classical music and, more specifically, the repertoire for organ and sacred choral music, with an approach that blends liturgical tradition, orchestral transcription, film music and openings to cross-disciplinary stages. Appointed in 2016 as musical director of Pembroke College, Cambridge, she for several years directs the college’s vocal ensembles and also develops work around improving access to the organ for young women. Her visibility then broadens through her recitals, radio and TV appearances, and later through broadcasting performances on social media, notably around the Royal Albert Hall organ, of which she becomes associate artist in 2022. Anna Lapwood has also performed with artists from other realms, including Bonobo, Raye or Aurora, in contexts where the organ dialogues with electronics, pop and stage music. Her discography includes Images (2021), A Pembroke Christmas (2022), Luna (2023), The Waiting Sky (2024) and Firedove (2025).
