Cinder Well

Operating under the name Cinder Well, Amelia Baker has been developing a project from Los Angeles that sits at the crossroads of contemporary folk, British traditions, and atmospheric writing. A composer, writer and multi-instrumentalist, she yields a spare yet dense music in which strings, discreet arrangements, and a voice that is often grave shape a mood that is both intimate and dark. After a self-titled debut EP released in 2015, Cinder Well carried this work forward with the albums The Unconscious Echo (2018), No Summer (2020) and Cadence (2023), progressively expanding her palette toward more textured forms and less strictly narrative. Her repertoire draws from traditional folk without being limited to it, blending ballad, drone folk and contemporary composition. Cinder Well has performed regularly in the United States and Europe, in settings ranging from independent rooms to festivals, and has shared the bill with artists from folk, experimental and metal scenes. In 2024, Amelia Baker also performed under the name Cinder Well as part of NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts, a moment that has accompanied growing visibility of the project on the current folk scene.
