Christie Dashiell
Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Greenville, North Carolina, Christie Dashiell has developed a career rooted in American vocal jazz, balancing formal training and stage activity. She studied jazz voice at Howard University before continuing at the Manhattan School of Music, two steps that place her within the dialogue between Washington and New York scenes. She later took part in an artist residency at the Mansion at Strathmore and then joined the faculty at Howard University, where she teaches jazz voice; her father, bassist Carroll Dashiell Jr., also held university posts there. In her solo discography she released Time All Mine (2016) and Journey in Black (2023). Her work belongs to contemporary vocal jazz, attentive to interpretation, precise phrasing and arrangement writing, with an approach that remains connected to the jazz tradition while moving through current forms. Christie Dashiell thus pursues a trajectory that is both pedagogical and artistic, built around recording, transmission and presence on the jazz stage.
