Madsen
In the rural Wendland region of Lower Saxony, the German band Madsen formed in the early 2000s around brothers Sebastian, Johannes and Sascha Madsen, joined by bassist Niko Maurer after shared experiences in punk and hardcore bands. By adopting German lyrics and a sound leaning more toward alternative rock, Madsen found its place on the German-language rock scene with a self-titled debut in 2005, followed by Goodbye Logik (2006) and Frieden im Krieg (2008), which established a mix of dominant guitars, melodic choruses and punk-derived energy. Subsequent records—Labyrinth (2010), Wo es beginnt (2012) and Kompass (2015)—continued this evolution toward an indie rock with more pronounced pop structures while retaining a direct rock foundation. With Lichtjahre (2018), Na gut dann nicht (2020) and Hollywood (2023), Madsen refined a style that alternates fast tracks and more introspective pieces, with lyrics addressing everyday life, relationships, coming of age in the provinces and some social issues in simple, blunt language. On stage Madsen moves between clubs and major German festivals such as Rock am Ring, Hurricane and Southside, establishing a lasting presence in the German-language rock landscape and touring extensively across the German-speaking area.
