Agnès Jaoui
Born in 1964 in Antony (Hauts-de-Seine), Agnès Jaoui, alongside her career as an actress, writer and director, has developed a singing career rooted in the Paris region. After theatrical training and lessons in classical singing, she gradually steered her practice toward song and popular-music styles, particularly Latin American ones. Her first album, Canta, released in 2006, gathers a Spanish-language repertoire combining boleros, tangos and Brazilian songs, arranged in the spirit of chamber music. In 2009, Dans mon pays broadened her linguistic and geographic range with tracks in French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Yiddish, in an approach that brings French chanson into dialogue with Mediterranean music and South American influences. Carambolages (2014) continued this work with a set of reinterpreted covers and standards, still in close collaboration with Argentine composer and arranger Fernando Fiszbein. On stage, Agnès Jaoui performs with a small ensemble in theatres and concert halls in France and abroad and occasionally appears in opera productions, forging a vocal path at the crossroads of lyric heritage, chanson and world music.
