Rowetta

Born in Manchester, Rowetta Idah has been evolving since the late 1980s between soul, R&B, pop, rock and dance music, with a voice associated as much with the British club scene as with Manchester's alternative rock. She first appears on several dance projects, notably with Vanilla Sound Corps, Dynasty of 2 and Sweet Mercy, whose track “Reach Out” in 1989 remains one of her most identified recordings. From 1990, Rowetta joins Happy Mondays for tours and recordings, participating in the Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches period in 1990 and Yes Please! in 1992, in a central role as singer bringing a soul and gospel dimension to the band's mix of baggy, funk rock and electronic grooves. In parallel, Rowetta also works as a backing vocalist, notably on Simply Red's Stars in 1991. After the separation and subsequent reformations of Happy Mondays, Rowetta continues a path between television, personal projects and collaborations, with a notable appearance on The X Factor in 2004 that repositions her in the British media space. She then continues to perform on pop, rock and electronic stages, collaborates with Peter Hook and the Light and participates in various projects linked to Manchester's musical culture. In 2023, Rowetta appears on Shed Seven's “In Ecstasy,” extending a career marked by moving between groups, featurings and live performances.
