Crystallmess
Born in Val-de-Marne and raised in L’Haÿ-les-Roses, Christelle Oyiri performs under the name Crystallmess and situates her work at the intersection of music, DJing and contemporary art. She is of Guadeloupean, Martiniquan and Ivorian descent. After starting out in cultural journalism — notably for Vice, The Guardian, The Fader and Brain Magazine — she developed in parallel a musical approach attentive to the circulations between Black cultures, diasporic memory and the club space. Her sets and productions have moved from zouk and dancehall to Detroit techno and then to more hybrid forms linked to afro‑trance, favoring textures, rhythmic ruptures and narrative continuity over fixed genre codes. In 2018 Crystallmess created the film installation Collective Amnesia, a project focused on club culture, colonial alienation and alternative temporalities, which was presented in Brussels, Paris, London, Metz and at the Les Urbaines festival. Through Crystallmess, Christelle Oyiri brings together the electronic scene, visual research and reflections on the gestures, sounds and imaginaries of Black French youth.
