Current Swell
Formed in the mid‑2000s in Victoria on Canada’s Pacific coast, Current Swell brings together Scott Stanton, David Lang, Louis Sadava and Chris Petersen around a blend of indie rock, folk and surf‑and‑roots influences. The band emerged on the local scene playing small venues and on the beaches of British Columbia before embarking on tours across North America, Europe, Brazil and Australia. Current Swell’s discography begins with So I Say (2005), Trust Us Now (2007) and Protect Your Own (2009), records marked by acoustic songwriting, vocal harmonies and travel‑tinged imagery. With Long Time Ago (2011) and Ulysses (2014) the group emphasized a more rock‑focused sound, introducing more electric arrangements and rhythms drawing on blues and light reggae while retaining a direct melodic approach. When to Talk and When to Listen (2017) and Buffalo (2019) extend this evolution toward a broader sound — guitars grow denser and the lyrics address everyday life as well as connections to the ocean and the road — anchoring Current Swell as a stage‑band accustomed to festivals and long‑format tours.
