Opium du Peuple

Formed in 2006 around musicians from Albi and the Basque Country, Opium du Peuple carved out a space in the French punk scene with a singular formula: taking francophone pop songs and moving them into direct punk rock, intentionally theatrical, threaded through with hardcore, metal, oi or Celtic-punk accents depending on the track. The band today brings together Slobodan, Joey Délices, Mademoiselle Cœur, Edouardo de la Vega, Gil Pickleson, Le K and Machine, in an expanded lineup where vocals and staging occupy a central place on stage. After Sex, Drugs & Variety in 2007, Opium du Peuple continued this re-reading work with Best Off in 2010, La révolte des Opiumettes in 2013, La revanche des clones in 2015, then 7 Salopards in 2018, a project accompanied by a feature film expanding the band's universe. The Curse of the BlackBurne, published in 2023, sits in this continuity, blending black humor, subversion of popular standards and a taste for style contrasts. Present in France's rock and punk festivals since its beginnings, Opium du Peuple develops a repertoire of transformed covers where live energy counts as much as the arrangement.
