A Filetta

Founded in 1978 in Balagne, Corsica, A Filetta participates in the tradition of Corsican polyphonic singing while opening it up to contemporary forms, secular and sacred. The vocal ensemble, today composed of six singers, works mainly a cappella, with attention paid to timbres, drones, cross-lines and the Corsican language, in an aesthetic that links island oral memory, vocal writing and Mediterranean circulations. Initially formed in an amateur setting, A Filetta professionalized at the beginning of the 1990s and gradually broadened its field of action beyond the traditional repertoire. Its discography includes Ab’eternu (1992), Passione (1997), Si di mè (2003), Bracanà (2008), Castelli (2015), Danse Mémoire, Danse (2018, with Paolo Fresu and Daniele di Bonaventura) and I Balconi (2023). A Filetta has also developed regular work for cinema, particularly with composer Bruno Coulais on the music for Don Juan (1998), Himalaya: L’Enfance d’un chef (1999) or Le Peuple migrateur (2001), as well as for theatre and contemporary dance, with collaborations including Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Fadia Tomb El-Hage. Over the decades, A Filetta has evolved Corsican polyphony in contexts of concert, stage and image, without breaking with its initial grounding.
