Oxymorrons

Formed in Queens, New York, around the Bellevue brothers, Oxymorrons have developed a sound at the crossroads of rap rock, alternative hip‑hop and a punk‑funk aesthetic that relies as much on taut guitars as on incisive flows, chant‑like choruses and a pronounced rhythmic drive. Evolving from a family nucleus into a quartet with drummer Matty Mayz and Jafe Paulino, Oxymorrons first built themselves on the New York live circuit before widening their exposure at festivals such as SXSW, Firefly and Afropunk. The band's trajectory shows a gradual move from very hybrid formats toward tighter songs, without abandoning the blend of rock energy, hip‑hop inflection and melodic sensibility. In their discography Oxymorrons released Complex But Basic in 2016, Mohawks and Durags in 2021 and Melanin Punk in 2023—three releases that map out a sonic identity where alternative tension, urban groove and forthright songwriting intersect. Oxymorrons thus occupies a fairly singular space between rock performance, rap culture and New York DIY heritage.
