Info
On September 23, 2026, at 229 London in London, the evening pays homage to what would have been John Coltrane's 100th birthday. Born in 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina, 'Trane' helped tilt modern jazz: from bebop and hard bop to modal, then to freer forms and a spiritual vein that has marked generations. His tenor and soprano playing, his sense of harmony, and his way of stretching improvisation remain a reference, from Blue Train to Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, or A Love Supreme.
To traverse this repertoire, saxophonist Jean Toussaint leads the tribute. A Grammy winner, he draws on a career nourished by Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Gil Evans, Horace Silver, and Wynton Marsalis. By his side, Emile Hinton's trio, with Toby Yapp on bass and Kai MacRae on drums, is tasked with reviving the classics and a few titles that are more discreet, with guests announced as the set unfolds.
