Info

Squeeze will play the Utilita Arena Birmingham on 28 November 2026, led by the songwriting duo Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. Formed in London in 1974, the band left its mark on the British new wave with concise, narrative songs about everyday life, from “Take Me I’m Yours” and “Cool for Cats” to “Up the Junction.” On stage they move between new wave nervousness and more melodic rock, with harmonies to the fore and crisp guitars, revisiting key periods such as East Side Story and Sweets from a Stranger, while also including more recent material from Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge. The set embraces both their beginnings and their current output, spanning five decades of songwriting.

Special guest Billy Bragg opens in an electric guitar-and-voice format. Emerging from the early-1980s post-punk scene, he blends an urban folk cadence with punk energy, with lyrics that range from social observation and political themes to love songs. From Life’s a Riot with Spy vs Spy and Talking with the Taxman about Poetry, through the Mermaid Avenue sessions with Wilco, up to The Million Things That Never Happened, he offers a raw, direct repertoire crafted for the stage.
