In Extremo

On December 12, 2026, In Extremo will perform at the Metropol Theater Bremen. Formed in 1995, the Berlin band combines two worlds: an acoustic foundation with bagpipes, shawms, hurdy-gurdy, harp or lute meets electric guitars, bass and drums. From this mixture emerges a sound between metal, folk rock and traditional melodies. The six musicians draw on lyrics in contemporary German, but also on adapted material in Latin, Occitan or Old Norse — with choruses that ignite immediately and motifs drawn from ancient sources.

On stage the group spans from the early hybrid pieces of the late ’90s, through albums such as Mein rasend Herz, Sängerkrieg and Sterneneisen, up to Kompass zur Sonne and the current Wolkenschieber from 2024. The medieval instruments remain central voices, not just color; the riffs provide the weight, and the drums of Florian Speckardt (with the band since 2010) sustain the pressure. Between market atmosphere and rock stage a pulse is created that unites chant, hook and groove — raw, melodic and without a break between yesterday and today.
