Californian songwriter Marlon Funaki brings a set that blends alternative rock, psych-pop, R&B shades and jazz-tinged guitar into songs where melody stays at the center. Of Japanese and Mexican-American heritage, he keeps his process close to home, often writing, recording and mixing his tracks himself. He first sat behind the kit in a school jazz band, then taught himself guitar and began posting early cuts to SoundCloud as a teenager. From house parties and warehouse shows to stages across the US and the UK, his path feeds a live sound with supple psych contours, rock textures, R&B inflections and a guitar approach that favors harmony over flash. He has shared bills with Palace, supported Billy Currington and appeared at Luck Reunion, Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and The Great Escape.
