Primal Scream: Xtrmntr

Primal Scream bring XTRMNTR back to the foreground in Manchester on 11 September 2026 at New Century, 34 Hanover Street, Manchester M4 4AH, United Kingdom. Formed in Glasgow in 1982 around Bobby Gillespie, the band moved from jangle pop beginnings to the club-charged alchemy of Screamadelica, fusing rock, acid house and dub. By the end of the decade they had steered into darker, motorik textures on Vanishing Point, a shift that set the stage for XTRMNTR (2000) and its hard-edged blend of electronic pressure, bass weight and guitar abrasion.

On stage today, Gillespie, Andrew Innes and Darrin Mooney revisit that period with a lean, rhythmic set, moving between caustic grooves and spaced-out dub passages. The focus turns to pieces like Accelerator, Swastika Eyes and Kill All Hippies, with room for connections to other phases of the catalogue, from gospel-tinged psych to electric blues.
