On 21 November 2026, Java and Winston McAnuff performed at Paul B in Massy. Sharing the same bill, they rekindled the connection forged since Paris Rockin’: a back-and-forth between Kingston and Paris where roots reggae meets the accordion and rhyme.
Winston McAnuff, a Jamaican singer who moved from gospel to 1970s reggae, delivers a broad vocal style nourished by soul and spirituality. From his earliest recordings in Kingston to his projects in France, he has broadened his palette to include funk, blues, dub, rock and chanson, notably with Fixi and as a member of Inna de Yard.
Formed in Paris by R.Wan and Fixi alongside Jérôme Boivin and Alexis Bossard, Java has shaped a recognisable “rap musette”: spoken-sung phrasing, playful writing, and an accordion that blends with hip-hop, French chanson and popular rhythms. From “Hawaï” to “Maudits Français,” the band has built a strong stage identity.
This concert put the two universes on equal terms: McAnuff’s gritty voice facing Java’s grooves, the accordion dialoguing with roots lines, a repertoire that moves between reggae, chanson and hip-hop, carried by a chemistry already well tested.
