On 26 June 2026, Beirut will take the stage at the Tempodrom in Berlin. The project of US musician Zach Condon from Santa Fe has blended indie pop, folk and echoes of Balkan fanfares since the mid-2000s. The debut Gulag Orkestar (2006), largely recorded in a home studio, laid the groundwork for a lineup featuring brass, accordion, ukulele and acoustic percussion. The Flying Club Cup (2007) deepened the orchestral song approach, while the double EP March of the Zapotec / Holland (2009) oscillated between South American colors and electronic sketches. With The Rip Tide (2011) and No No No (2015) the song forms became more compact without losing the hallmark of string and brass arrangements. Gallipoli (2019), the compilation Artifacts (2022) and Hadsel (2023) mark the most recent phase at the intersection of chamber pop, folk and travel sketches. Live, Beirut traces a through-line across different chapters of this songwriting with a warm brass sound and richly detailed arrangements.
