Info
On July 8, 2026 at the Théâtre Antique in Vienne, a meeting between two faces of New Orleans: Jon Batiste and Big Freedia.
A pianist, singer and composer trained at Juilliard, Jon Batiste moves freely between jazz, soul, R&B, pop and gospel without putting genres in boxes. Having come up through New York clubs and served as musical director of the Late Show, he has developed an approach in which collective groove takes precedence, from solo piano to expanded ensembles. His recent projects, from WE ARE to World Music Radio, blend pop songwriting, jazzy harmonies and gospel-tinged choirs, while his film music, notably for Soul, showcases his gift for immediate melodies. On stage he fosters interaction with the audience and a shifting energy that is both rhythmic and vocal.
A key figure of bounce, Big Freedia brings the DNA of NOLA block parties: fast tempos, pounding bass, and call-and-response built for dancing and direct interaction. From her early tracks to Central City, she has carried this local sound to a wide audience, pursuing collaborations and formats that preserve the impact of the live experience. Her show relies on addressing the crowd, a chanted flow and constant physicality—designed to make the amphitheater move, stone by stone. Two approaches, one root: the pulse of New Orleans.
