The Musée des Arts Décoratifs marks the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Musée des Arts de la Mode with an exhibition inside its walls, presenting 40 iconic silhouettes.
The major exhibition "Look! 40 Years of Fashion at the Museum" reveals the know-how and the gestures of fashion, which, from sewing workshops to the backstage areas of the museum, transform the garment into a work of art. The exhibition invites visitors to follow the garment's two lives, before and after its entry into the collections. From the initial sketch to the runway, through fashion photography, from the museum's storerooms to the exhibition itself, it reveals the stages of creation, conservation, and restoration that give life to this exceptional heritage.
The public can thus discover the beauty of the works and objects that participate in the invention of a fashion piece: drawings, embroidery samples, patterns, design registrations... Sublimated by photography, worn by models whose celebrity is growing, the garment becomes the centerpiece of runway shows now conceived as genuine artistic performances.
