On 28 August 2026 in Dublin, Jalen Ngonda brings his soul-driven show to The Academy, with the kind of tight, band-led set that’s built for the room as much as for the songs. Raised between Silver Spring, Maryland and the UK, and shaped by his years in Liverpool, he’s carved out a sound that nods to 60s soul and classic R&B while keeping a clean, modern pop sense of melody and structure.
Expect forward, expressive vocals riding steady grooves, pronounced bass lines and those mid-tempo rhythms that make a track feel instantly familiar without turning into pastiche. Since teaming up with Daptone Records, Ngonda has sharpened that approach across a run of singles and his 2023 album Come Around and Love Me, moving naturally from slow-burn ballads to more danceable cuts. Live, it’s all about the essentials: voice, rhythm section, and the occasional lift from brass or strings when the arrangement calls for it.
