For three decades, James Lavelle has been a key name in UK club culture, as comfortable behind the decks as he is shaping sounds in the studio. On 3 October 2026 at Future Yard (Birkenhead), he brings that wide-angle approach that made him a reference point for genre-hopping DJ sets and for his work at the helm of UNKLE.
Lavelle started DJing in Oxford at 15 before moving to London, where he launched Mo’ Wax and quickly became a fixture of the city’s scene. His early residencies and long-running club nights helped define a space where hip-hop, trip-hop, breakbeat and electronic music could sit side by side, and his taste for sharp transitions and unexpected pairings still drives his sets.
In the studio, that same sense of narrative runs through his mix projects and his UNKLE output, built around collaborations with voices and musicians from across the spectrum, from Thom Yorke and Michael Kiwanuka to Mark Lanegan, Massive Attack, Brian Eno and Josh Homme. Beyond music, Lavelle also works as a curator, developing immersive exhibition formats that extend his cinematic, multi-sensory vision.
