Info
On July 4, 2026, at the Théâtre Antique in Vienne, the Jazz à Vienne Festival brought together Marcus Miller. The American bassist and composer has shaped a recognizable sound, combining precise slap, supple grooves and lyrical melodies. On stage he moves from electric bass to bass clarinet, spins out effective riffs and opens space for the band. His arrangements move between jazz, funk and soul, with clear themes, a taut yet always musical approach, and a genuine mastery of rhythm that propels each piece.
Later that evening, Terence Blanchard and Ravi Coltrane took over. The trumpeter, also a film composer, blends composition and improvisation with an attention to harmonic color inherited from his years with the Jazz Messengers. Opposite him, the saxophonist develops a flexible tone and a melodic line attentive to detail, far from pastiche, poised between memory and exploration. Together they offered a precise, attentive dialogue in which the trumpet traces clear lines and the tenor breathes, producing music that is open, mobile and firmly rooted in the present.
