American Football

American Football land in London on 28 June 2026 at O2 Forum Kentish Town, carrying the intricate, low-key intensity that has defined them since the late 90s. Formed in Champaign-Urbana by Mike Kinsella, Steve Lamos and Steve Holmes, the band built its sound on interlocking clean guitars, shifting time signatures and introspective vocals, with trumpet lines slipping in to colour the edges. Their self-titled 1999 debut was later rediscovered, sparking a return in 2014 and two new albums in 2016 and 2019 that opened the palette without losing the intimacy.

On stage, American Football stretch time rather than race it. Arpeggios braid and unbraid, drums lean into odd meters with understatement, and melodies sit close to the mic, like notes passed at midnight. The set moves between the skeletal glow of the first record and the denser arrangements of the later material, sometimes adding brass and extra players around the core trio. It’s a show built on patience and detail, where the songs bloom slowly and the room seems to narrow in, one guitar line at a time.
