China Crisis

Formed in the late 1970s in Kirkby near Liverpool, China Crisis revolves around the partnership of Gary Daly (vocals, keyboards) and Eddie Lundon (guitar, vocals). Rooted in British new wave and synth-pop, their songs blend supple basslines, melodic synths and clean guitars with a reflective, understated writing style that brushes against gentle post-punk and sophisti-pop. The early single African and White set the pace, followed by the albums Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms and Working with Fire and Steel. Their palette widened with Flaunt the Imperfection in 1985, co-produced by Walter Becker of Steely Dan, then What Price Paradise and Diary of a Hollow Horse. After Warped by Success, the group returned in 2015 with Autumn in the Neighbourhood, while keeping a steady live presence. On stage, Daly and Lundon perform as a duo augmented by additional players depending on the setup. China Crisis will be at Concorde 2 (Half Hall), Brighton, on Friday 11 September 2026.
