Info
On 2 June 2026 at the Amphithéâtre d’Ô in Montpellier, Stephan Eicher will not be entirely alone. The Swiss singer invites director François Gremaud for a staged concert in which songs, words and images answer one another. Gremaud, who has revisited Phèdre, Carmen and Giselle in playful, respectful vignettes, brings here his off-kilter touch: anecdotes slipped along the wire, visual and sonic trompe-l’œil, small narratives that slot in between the verses. Eicher moves like a tightrope walker between ballads and pop pulses, true to his taste for the unexpected — he has been seen performing with an orchestra of automatons or setting off on a raft — and opens his numbers as one would leaf through a notebook. Texts blend with spoken voice, introductions become stories, choruses pick up sly auditory winks. Neither pure theatre nor a simple concert, but an intimate two-person form, on a human scale, in which his repertoire is traversed with a wry smile and a restrained melancholy. No tragic heroine or flashy props, just a singer who shares his songs and their backstage with a stage-maker who delights in making laughter and attentive listening resonate.
