Baptiste Trotignon « Art is Simple »

Baptiste Trotignon will perform at the Sunset Sunside in Paris on May 5, 2026 with Art is Simple. A pianist trained in the classical tradition before diving into jazz, he has developed a clear and fluid musical language in which the pulse remains distinct and the phrasing highly articulated. His playing places the piano at the center, balancing an assertive melody, contemporary improvisation and attention to form. On stage he moves freely between his own compositions, standards and reinterpretations that also draw on other repertoires, with writing nourished as much by contemporary jazz as by the European tradition.

Active since the late 1990s and based in Paris, Trotignon has carved out a singular place as a soloist, in trio or duo, while not ruling out larger formats. He has been heard alongside Stefano Di Battista and Tom Harrell, but it is always his direct relationship to the keyboard that sets the course: a taste for acoustic sound, precise construction and a constant listening to the inner voice. With Art is Simple, he continues this trajectory with a focused repertoire conceived for the club’s intimate setting and for listening that captures the subtlest nuances of the gesture.
