Slow Pulp

Formed in Madison, Wisconsin and now based in Chicago, Slow Pulp brings together Emily Massey, Alex Leeds, Teddy Mathews and Henry Stoehr in a quartet that crosses indie rock, indie pop, bedroom pop, with touches of indie folk and alt-country inflections. The band formed in 2015 around longtime friendships among several members, then refined its identity with Emily Massey’s arrival on EP2 in 2017. After a first EP in 2015, followed by Big Day in 2019, Slow Pulp developed a sound that is both hushed and tense, built on supple guitars, melancholic melodies, and writing that stays direct. The debut album Moveys appeared in 2020 after a recording phase partly conducted remotely during the pandemic, a context that colors its introspective atmosphere without breaking the band's energy. In 2021, Slow Pulp released the EP Deleted Scenes, before joining the Anti label and releasing Yard in 2023. On stage, Slow Pulp has alternated between headlining tours and opening slots for Death Cab for Cutie, Pixies or Alvvays, in a register where the fragility of the songs rests on a sober rhythm section and arrangements that preserve a lo-fi texture without losing clarity.
