Gallant

Born in Washington and raised in Columbia, Maryland, Christopher Joseph Gallant III performs under the name Gallant, with songs that sit between contemporary R&B, alternative R&B, electronic pop and touches of alternative rock. After studying at New York University he moved to Los Angeles and began his independent career with the EP Zebra in 2014. Gallant attracted wider attention in 2015 with the single “Weight in Gold,” and developed a stage presence across pop, soul and indie circuits, touring with Sufjan Stevens and appearing at festivals such as Coachella. His debut album, Ology, was released in 2016 and earned him a Grammy nomination in the category Best Urban Contemporary Album. His subsequent work confirms a taste for hybrid forms, where a highly flexible falsetto meets airy productions, R&B rhythms and a melodic tension often closer to alternative songwriting than to classic soul. Gallant followed with Sweet Insomnia in 2019, the EP Neptune in 2021, and sneek in 2023, a collaborative project with Terrace Martin at the intersection of soul and jazz. In 2024 Gallant released Zinc., an album that extends this turn toward a more indie-oriented aesthetic without abandoning his R&B foundation.
