An artist at the crossroads of influences, trumpeter Daoud delivers a bubbling, high-energy concert. Trumpet in hand, abyssal bass lines, cascading percussion—this is Daoud’s sound, the “enfant terrible” of jazz, flouting the rules with a delicious pleasure. In an atmosphere that is at times soft, at times electrifying, and accompanied by a trio of double bass, keyboard, and drums, he offers a performance with multiple facets. Between bursts of brilliance and tenderness, the artist-composer evokes childhood, a moment of upheaval that allows him to open up with sincerity by sweeping away what he hopes to overturn through his music. It thus takes on a very personal form, blending melodic jazz, danceable electro rhythms, and fiery solos, touching both curious newcomers and purists.
