A figure of the new European jazz scene, Léon Phal is developing a project at the crossroads of jazz, groove, and electronic music.
With Bodies & Ideas, his fourth album, he extends the momentum initiated with Stress Killer and sustained through more than a hundred concerts in France and abroad, notably in Paris at La Maroquinerie and at New Morning, but also at MaMA Festival, opening for Vulfpeck at Jazz à Vienne, at the Winter Jazzfest in New York, at Ronnie Scott's in London, and at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
On stage, the band, composed of Gauthier Toux (keyboards), Zacharie Ksyk (trumpet), Rémi Bouyssière (bass) and Arthur Alard (drums), plays tightly, with a collective intensity. The sound is warm, organic, the groove steady, and the concert quickly sweeps the audience away. It is a live performance that is at once gripping and danceable.
With Bodies & Ideas, the project also opens to other colors on record, notably through collaborations with Italian singer Fabiana Martone (Nu Genea) and rapper Jungle Jack.
The live journey moves forward like a crossing, between tension and release, until it finds a form of balance, like a passage from shadow to light, mirroring the Divine Comedy. A music of body and mind, conceived to be played, shared and experienced.
