Schur

On 31 October 2026 Schur will be at Melkweg in Amsterdam. The New York artist, who grew up in Connecticut, moves effortlessly between rap, indie-pop patterns and alternative hip-hop. His beginnings lie with the guitar and Led Zeppelin records; as a teenager he played with Pampalibros in bars and small venues. Later he and a friend developed Rock Cottage Studio, recorded local acts and helped organize benefit shows and the Rendezvous festival.

In New York, while studying at Columbia, he dove deeper into contemporary hip-hop. Influences such as Kanye West, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Logic and Felly color his writing. Through singles like Gullwing Bravado and The Unsure Mixtape he defined a hybrid sound: spoken and sung lines, melodies built around guitars, rhythms that touch on rap and modern pop, and lyrics that draw on his commuting between Connecticut and the city.

Live he brings that mix straight to the stage: verses with a clear cadence, choruses that stick, and arrangements where guitar parts and beats find each other. No big frills, but attention to structure, storytelling and dynamics. Melkweg thus gets a compact snapshot of where Schur stands now and where he’s headed.
