Info
On 24 May 2026, Jazz Cafe in London welcomes Smif-N-Wessun, the Brooklyn duo Tek and Steele who emerged from Bucktown in the early 90s. First heard alongside Black Moon on Enta Da Stage, they quickly defined their own path with Dah Shinin, a debut that anchored their sound in raw drums and street-level detail.
Rooted in the Duck Down and Boot Camp Clik lineage, their style is all craft and chemistry: tightly woven verses, patois-tinged delivery, and a tag-team flow glued to boom bap rhythms, heavy bass and soul-soaked samples. Reggae and dancehall inflections run through the cadence, while Brooklyn stories keep the writing grounded and direct.
On stage, they move in lockstep: clipped exchanges, call-and-response energy, and a pace that swings from early material to later cuts from Monumental and The All. Decades on, the approach stays focused — rhythm, presence and authenticity doing the heavy lifting — for a set that traces the arc of a crew built on grit, discipline and loyalty.
